We find ourselves when we remember what makes us. All the little pieces. All the layers. The sayings, the memories, the songs, the moments, the places. All these pieces come together to tell a unique and beautiful story, but for me, it’s not complete until the outside meets the inside.
I find that nature helps me see the deepest truths my heart knows. I know that when I’m painting a vast open sky, that there is space for me and I belong here. When I paint the grasses I walk on I am reminded that I am cared for and not alone. When I put the whole scene together with my oil paints, I see and know that there is a love that covers me like none other and I don’t have to perfect.
I don’t have to be the best.
I am ok when I fail and make mistakes.
I don’t have to carry the weight of helping everyone.
Sigh… this daily reorientation is what helps me find joy in a life that is far from perfect. When you look at my work, I hope you see more than a pretty picture. I hope you find a moment to breathe and in that moment, a meeting of the inside and the outside and the One who made it all.
