This painting lets you deep into my crazy imagination where I see trees as figures. I snapped a photo of this Aspen tree in Rocky Mountain National Park and it just reminded me of the feminine form. The movement and shape of the trunk looked like a hip thrusting out in defiance or as part of a lurid dance. The whole motion and pose speaks of strength and also vulnerability. If this tree was woman, what would her story be? Curious. The collage materials for this piece include 1920's Colorado Gazette newspaper, specifically, the reviews about current movies and also a section known as "women's interests."
12" x 6" Paper collage and oil on cradled panel. Collage materials wrap around the edges to create a finished look that doesn't require framing. Finished with a matte, archival varnish. Wired and ready to hang.
"Defiance" 12 x 6
