"Sing" 6 x 6

"Sing" 6 x 6

We sing all the time in our home.  We sing in the car.  We sing outside.  It's just something we do.  It's something I do.

I grew up singing with my family all the time too.  I would use singing to entertain myself when I was bored or give comfort when I was lonely.  It's funny, I always knew that if I started singing, I wouldn't be able to hold on to whatever was making me sad, mad, or frustrated.   I would sometimes keep my lips clamped shut in pride and stubbornness.  I just didn't want to let it go.  Sometimes the stubborness would win, but as I've gotten older, I've come to see that joy and peace and "feeling" things is way better than pride.  Hence, I sing a lot.  And not always in tune.

I decided to create a word illustration for "sing" because I've come to believe that involves so much more than just filling your lungs with air,  pushing it out with your diaphram and then trying to create different tones with your vocal chords.  Singing touches our hearts.  We are so much more vulnerable and open when we sing.  We are more alive as well.  What if we all sang just a little bit more this year?  What would happen?  I sure would like to find out!

This 6" x 6" original artwork is created using paper collage, acrylic and colored pencil on hardboard panel.  "Wonder" is sealed with an acrylic varnish and comes framed in a simple black frame, wired and ready to display.
