"The Courage Tree" 36" x 36 "
There is so much to explore and connect with in this piece. The kids symbolize me and my brother swinging in our willow tree swing we had growing up. There was something so freeing and wonderful about soaring on that swing. Living with type one diabetes since the age of five made childhood feel a lot less free and playful, but I always forgot about my responsibilities when I played at this tree. I also forgot the fear. This tree helped me remember to be a child. I'm so thankful for that. This willow tree also helped me learn how to be brave in other areas of life. It was the perfect place to "try out" courage.
This piece was created using paper collage and oil on cradled panel. It's is finished with a Gamvar Retouch Varnish and wired to hang.
