The Blog Red Carpet...
Sometimes when you are working really hard in front of a computer screen, posting things on the world wide web, it is really easy to get discouraged and think that NOBODY is paying attention at all. It is all just getting sent into the digital abyss never to be recognized or affirmed. Sigh….. Anyone else ever feel that way...anyone?
But then there are times like these that you are reminded that yes, someone IS READING and PAYING ATTENTION and thinks that the things you are doing matter. Woohoo!! I was honored and thrilled to be nominated for the blogger recognition award by my good friends, Heather and Lisa from Made in a Pinch. We both started blogging about the same time and have really enjoyed traveling this blogging journey together. Thanks, guys! You can read their acceptance post for this prestigious award here.
What is the Blogger Recognition Award?
The Blogger Recognition Award is an opportunity for bloggers to connect and recognize one another for their contributions. As part of the nomination, each nominee gets to nominate an additional 15 bloggers for the award.
Why I Started Blogging
My reasons for blogging might be a bit different from other nominees. I didn’t start doing this for money, sponsors, popularity, cathartic or therapeutic reasons or because I have this amazing passion for writing that just needs to get out. I started blogging because of my art. I’ve always enjoyed writing and I’ve been journaling for as long as I have been able to form sentences. But it wasn’t until recently that I realized that I had something to say about my paintings and a blog would be a great way to help people understand my work better and understand ME better. Art can be intimidating and overwhelming to folks that aren’t creating it and the best way to become comfortable with works of art and better grasp its value is to be informed on the why and how that an artist does something.
I’ve also noticed that in sharing more about myself and my lessons as an artist and a mom, people find their own story in these musings and that brings incredible encouragement to me. We all have things in common, be it interests, struggles, circumstances, etc. When we are vulnerable and share, it is amazing what can come from that.
Advice for New Bloggers
Have a Friend Review Your Post--I’m a horrible proofreader and a notorious run-on-sentence person, so it is very, very helpful to have a trusted, grammatically gifted friend review my writing before it is posted. It is easy to miss a lot of things when you’ve been staring at a post for days on end.
Learn How to Create Great Titles-- A catchy, intriguing title can go a long way in the online world. Start paying attention to some of your favorite blogs or even just blogs that have a large readership. What are they using for their titles? I keep a running list of titles and ideas in my journal. You never know when a really good idea or title will strike…
Think Marathon, not Sprint-- Blogging and becoming well-known on the internet usually takes quite a bit of time. Most bloggers are plodding along, writing articles, doing guest posts, etc for YEARS before anyone starts to notice. Be patient.
15 Nominations -- Here are the blogs I would like to recognize and nominate for this award. These are blogs I personally read and from which I gain wisdom, laughs, and advice. Since I’m an artist, you may notice a few more art related blogs:)
